In 1977, a movie about a daredevil, a trucker, a runaway bride, and an obsessed sheriff took moviegoers by storm. The film was Smokey and the Bandit, and the cast included Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jerry Reed, and Jackie Gleason. Now this was a big-time cast, but for gearheads across the country, the real star of the movie was a 1977 Special Edition, Black and Gold, Pontiac Trans Am. Pontiac seized the opportunity, and soon anyone could go to their local dealership and pretend they were trying to get away from Sheriff Buford T. Justice! Well the good news is that you can still get a reproduction of that special T/A thanks to the folks at Year One, Inc. Today, Keith Maney is on hand to show Dennis how Year One and Burt Reynolds have brought “The Bandit” back to life!
Known primarily as a parts company, Year One is now offering a complete reproduction of the legendary “Bandit.” They have even gotten the approval and input from Burt Reynolds on just how the car should be built! As Dennis and Keith walk around the car, Keith points out many of the features that these new cars have. Some are a toned-down graphics, flush-mounted glass, modern LED taillights, and the classic Pontiac “snowflake” design wheels that have been reproduced in larger sizes! On the interior, Year One has recreated the three-spoke steering wheel, but this time covered in leather! The engine turned dash has also been updated, and all of the cars feature manual transmissions. Under the hood, this version of the Bandit has the beast Z06 427 cubic-inch, big block engine that makes 605 horsepower. However, there are other engine options available! The handling is also everything that you should expect featuring a tube front sub frame and coil over shocks that are adjustable. Also, the six-piston brake system will stop this T/A on a dime. You can rest assured that there is no Smokey that is going to be able to stay on the road with this Bandit!
